Wrestler Genesis prepares for WOW's Season 5, focusing on grip strength and upper body training, while eyeing the championship title.

Selena O’Sullivan, prominently known in wrestling circles as "Genesis," is ramping up her training for the highly anticipated Season 5 of WOW—Women Of Wrestling. She's honing her grip strength, an essential component for her success in the ring, as she aims to tighten her competitive edge.
Genesis's character takes inspiration from her roots—she hails from the isolated Northern Territory of Australia, specifically a small mining town called Nhulunbuy. “I’m billed as being from the harsh Australian outback, which is 100% true,” she proudly states. Growing up fascinated by action films and drawn to martial arts, Genesis was a self-described "super tomboy." Her journey began with karate classes at her local town hall, eventually leading her to Los Angeles, where she expanded her skills to include Wing Chun and Muay Thai while sharpening her abilities in acting and stunt work. “As Genesis, I wield nunchucks,” she explains, linking her extensive martial arts background to her wrestling persona, which debuted in 2019 with the WOW promotion.
Learning the Art of Wrestling
Genesis’s first experience in the wrestling ring came during a tryout at WOW’s training center, a moment she cherished. She quickly discovered that the mechanics of professional wrestling differ significantly from traditional martial arts. “In wrestling, you’re often throwing yourself towards the floor, which is a shock to the body,” she elaborates. Under the guidance of Selina Majors, a recognized figure in women’s wrestling and the creative leader at WOW, Genesis has started to grasp the intricate storytelling elements that professional wrestling demands. "You have to tell a great story, not just try to look impressive," she remarks.
The path to mastering wrestling techniques is ongoing for Genesis. She acknowledges that her training includes trial and error, especially with moves like a twisting leg drop from the second turnbuckle. “We love what we do but must stay cautious with each other,” she insists. When it comes to executing complex moves, she emphasizes being in optimal shape and training diligently to mitigate mistakes.
Genesis's Upper Body and Grip Strength Workout
When it’s time to hit the gym, Genesis often opts for outdoor hikes to clear her mind, but she also takes her workout regimen seriously. Her recent focus on upper body strength combines classic weightlifting with an emphasis on grip stability, which she considers vital in the ring. Below is her current chest and shoulder workout routine:
Warmup on the Elliptical
The workout consists of performing 8-12 reps of each exercise for three rounds:
- Standing Cable Flies
- Shoulder Press Machine
- Chest Dips
- Standing Cable Crossovers
Genesis adds her unique twist to these routines, focusing on grip strength by rotating her wrists at the end of each rep. This technique, known in the fitness community as “wringing,” enhances forearm stability and functional grip strength. “That’s the stuff you lose if you don’t work on it,” she comments. Recognizing the dynamics of wrestling holds, she stresses the importance of being flexible and strong in various positions, dedicating time to stretch after workouts.
Aiming for the Top in Season 5
As the excitement builds for Season 5 of WOW, Genesis feels energized and ready for what lies ahead. She’s been brainstorming ways to surprise her opponents, stating, “If I had to bring in another weapon, I would bring a bow staff.” This playful hint reflects her competitive spirit and strategic mindset.
In the thrilling Season 4 finale, Santana Garrett emerged as the new world champion. With rumors suggesting a new venue at L.A. Live for Season 5, Genesis has her sights set on the title. “I’m ready for title shots,” she declares, making it clear that Santana Garrett is at the top of her list!
